My Unistar Uni-85 chiller has been operating constantly since I connected it in late September.
The fan in it has now died which annoys me more than a bit, but such is life, when you buy something cheap you can’t expect it to last long.
I currently have a room heater (set on the fan only setting) blowing over the unit and it is maintaining normal temperatures. When I move house I will disassemble the chiller and try to replace the fan.
Once I’ve pulled the unit apart I will work out if I would recommend the unit to others or if I think the units are just purely dodgy.
The CO2 system also arrived today. It’s smaller than I thought, but all looks to be in order. Now I just need a controller for the solenoid, then once I’ve moved house I can get the tank happening with the CO2 and a heap of plants.
The timers and power board arrived today from Hardware Delivered; they were a bit slow getting the items to me, but the items were as described and well packed.
I connected a timer to the light on the 2g aquarium at work so I no longer need to turn it on and off (which was a bit awkward crawling under the desk twice a day to unplug it and plug it in.
I received my order from DIYTools.com.au today, not too bad time wise, it took 3 days from the date of order for the items to be sent to me (via normal post) from Melbourne.
I got some O-Rings for a filter for one of my fishtanks (more info) and a cordless screwdriver with around 100 different bits. The O-Ring kit is great and had the O-Ring I needed; the screwdriver looks like it’s pretty good for the $31.50 price tag.
I bought a Crowntail Betta for at work today. Lets see how he likes it there.
I purchased a new 40 gallon (3ft) aquarium today. I’m planning to set it up as a community tank, but not until after I move house.
I didn’t win any of the tenders I placed. I’ll have to try again next time.
I popped past the Tender Centre this morning to see what they had. I ended up placing the following bids:
- RJays motorcycle jacket $20.00
- 3ft aquarium with black stand $30.00
- 2.5ft aquarium with accessories $15.00
- Small fridge (desktop size) $10.00
Hopefully I’ll get the aquariums and the bike jacket. The fridge would be cool, but completly unnecessary.
When I got home today (Thursday) I discovered that Fastway Couriers had left the Hailea chiller on my doorstep.
I’m very impressed with the quick delivery of this item, but I am extremely unhappy with the fact that Fastway has left the chiller sitting on the doorstep where anyone could have taken it. Why was a delivery note not left so I could collect the chiller from their distribution centre as all other courier companies do?
Well I’ve just bought 2 aquarium chillers on eBay.
One chiller is for the new 38 gallon hex tank I am awaiting delivery of. This chiller is a Hailea HC-100A and cost me $323.00 plus $30.00 freight.
I also purchased a Unistar 85 heater/chiller for my 5 gallon betta tank. This cost me $299.00 plus $20.00 freight.
Finally I purchased a small pump to circulate water through the Unistar heater/chiller. This cost me $6.50 plus $11.00 freight.
